Mechanics 1 Flashcards
What is kinematics?
A way to describe and understand motion using distance, speed, displacement, velocity, time and acceleration
What is acceleration?
Change in meter/s (v) every second
Deceleration
If acc is acting in opp direction of velocity vector, it slows down the velocity vector by that meter/s every second
What happens to v when a is perpendicular to v?
Velocity will change
Can you have acc without v changing?
Yes butt how?
Formula for velocity in general
v = ∆displacement/∆time
What is instantaneous velocity?
Velocity of an object at a particular time when the velocity is not constant but acc is?
v(f) = v(i) + at
What is the avg v?
It is the gradient of a position-time graph
Equation without need for acc at that time/ magnitude/ direction?
v(avg) = 1/2 (v(i) + v(f))
Equation for d when motion has a constant uniform acc?
d = v(i) + a(t)ˆ2
Equation that doesn’t include time
v(f)ˆ2 = v(i)ˆ2 + 2ad
What is the acc for all objects when they fall?
9.81 or use preferably 10ms-2
If ball is thrown upwards, whats the situation?
Its going against gravity and as acc is downwards, the gravity slows down the upwards velocity by 10ms-1 every second
When throwing a ball at an angle…
USE THE DAM VECTOR COMPONENTS
Formula for v
v = dis(f) - dis(i)/ time(f) - time (i)
