How people experience their lived. Influence by or based on personal beliefs, feeling or opinions.
Burden of Disease
A measure of the impact of diseases and injuries. Measured using DALY’S.
Health status.
An individuals or populations overall health taking into account various aspects such as life expectancy, amount of disability and levels of disease risk factors.
DALYs
A measure of burden of disease, one DALY equals one year if healthy life lost due to premature death and time lived with an illness, disease or injury.
Life Expectancy
Number of years a person should expect to live to if death rates don’t change.
Health indicators
Standard statistics used to measure and compare health status.
Mortality
Refers to death
Morbidity
refers to ill health in an individual and the levels of ill health in a population or group.
Incidence
Refers to the number of new cases of a condition in a given period (usually 12 months)
Prevalence
Refers to the total number of cases of a condition at a given time.
YLD
A measure of how many years of healthy years of life are lost due to illness, injury or disability.
YLL
A measure of how many years of expected life are lost due to premature death.
Low birth weight
Relating to a baby born with a weight under 2.5 kg.
Psychological distress
Relates to unpleasant feelings and emotions that affect an individual’s level of functioning.
