Customary System
The units of measurement most often used in the United States. These include feet, pound, and quart.
Length
Measurement of the distance between two points.
Convert
To change one unit to another.
Weight
A measurement that tells how heavy an object is.
Capacity
The amount a container can hold.
Capacity Customary System
4 quarts = 1 gal. 2 pts. = 1 quart. 2 c = 1 pint. 8 fl oz = 1 c =. 8 pints = 1 gallon 4 cups = 1 quart 16 cups = 1 gallon 16 fl oz = 1 pint 32 fl oz = 1 quart 128 fl oz = 1 gallon
Weight Customary System
16 ounces = 1 pound
2000 pounds = 1 ton
Length Customary System
12 inches = 1 foot 3 feet = 1 yard 1760 yards = 1 mile 5280 feet = 1 mile 36 inches = 1 yard
Fair Share
An amount divided equally.
Line Plot
A graph that uses columns of X’s above a number line to show frequency of data.
Metric System
The decimal system of measurement. Includes units such as meter, gram, and liter.
Metric System length
10 millimeters = 1 centimeter
100 centimeters = 1 meter
1,000 millimeters = 1 meter
1000 meters = 1 kilometer
Metric System Capacity and Mass
Mass = 1,000 grams = 1 Kilogram. 1,000 milligrams = 1 gram.
1,000 milliliters = 1 liter. Capacity. 1,000 liters equal a kiloliter
