Measurement Flashcards
Vernier calliper
Used to measure the distances of certain objects
Two scales: fixed scale, highest scale
Fixed scale: to measure whole numbers
Highest scale: decimal numbers
To work out the distance of an object you add the fixed scale and the highest scale 3 + 0.9
Micrometer screw gauge
More accurate (0.01mm)
Also has two scales (fixed and highest)
Works the same way as the vernier calliper
However there are errors
Lengths of certain objects
Pendulum
When its not moving its at rest
Make sure the the string is perpendicular
Slighty swing the pendulum
Using a stop watch record (eg: 10 oscillations)
Divide the number of swings by the time taken
Oscillations/over time taken = one pendulum
Volume
Measuring cylinder
Meniscus, the curve of the water, remember to measure the bottom
Time
Analogue watch
Digital stop watch
