Advantages and disadvantages of MDT
Advantages
• Allows practitioners and other healthcare professionals work together to deliver comprehensive care. This often results in better patient outcomes as all of their needs are being met.
• Will provide greater organisation and less error through miscommunication (improved coordination)
• Professionals can discuss decisions amongst each other regarding the patients treatment
Disadvantages
• All healthcare professionals will be working on unique schedules outside of the MDT
• Consistent collaboration is required for the MDT to be successful (high maintenance) -all decisions and treatments have to be communicated to the rest of the team
• If the team has not designated a clear leader, this can lead to a lack of clear objectives for the care plan, resulting in the team becoming less efficient.
