What hematologic features are required to diagnose MDS?
A
- Persistent cytopenia(s) with one or more cell lines that are below normal for 4 months without other causes
- Myeloblasts with bone marrow blasts 5-19% or on peripheral smear 2-19%
- MDS-defining cytogenetic/molecular features or dysplasia (>10% in one or more hematopoietic lineages) or ringed sideroblasts >15% (or >5% in the presence of SF3B1)

Name two MDS-defining cytogenic/molecular abnormalities
A
- Mutated SF3B1 (>10% VAF)
- del(5q) with up to 1 additional cytogenetic abnormality (except 7/del (7q).
