McA Flashcards
What are monoclonal antibodies
Identical copies of one type of antibody
Mass produced by creating HYBRIDOMA cells in a lab
Different uses:
Different uses including:
Treating and diagnosing diseases
Making pregnancy tests work
Issues of monoclonal antibodies
Limitations and ethical issues
How are monoclonal antibodies produced
Come from a cloned lymphocyte
Process:
A mouse is injected with an antigen
This triggers immune response in mouse
It’s lymphocytes begin to produce specific antibodies specific to antigen
Lymphocytes are fused with tumour
Tumour cells divide rapidly
New cells are called Hybridoma
They divide rapidly and create lots of cells which create same antibody
Antibodies can be collected purified and used
