Yes, SAS can give a teacher a heads-up to refrain from calling on a student or give that student a notice in advance that they will be called on (keep in mind the course requirements and make sure a fundamental alteration is not occuring)
Can students receive additional accommodations halfway through a semester?
Yes, as long as it’s relevant.

A student can email SAS requesting to add a relevant accommodation, explaining why they need it

(Job and Internship Network) Students can search and apply for jobs and internships, see which departments are recruiting on-campus workers, upload resumes for review and access job search resources

Work experience during schooling so that when students are done with school they have experience to make them a viable candidate

Because it’s on their phone, which can be a leech of time management

State Supplemental Payment = State program that increases benefits ; Funded by the Social Security Administration

Supplemental Security Income = Federally funded program that provides income support to age 65 and older who are deaf, blind or disabled ; Funded by the Social Security Administration

An individualized education plan to ensure that a child with an identified disability receives the proper speciazlied instruction and related services
What does DSPS stand for?
Disability Support Programs and Services - responsible for assessing and administering accommodations based on a student’s disabilites

Software that SAS uses to help manage student data, accommodations, etc
What is a 504 Plan?
Plan as to how students will have access to learning at school
What is the difference between an IEP and 504 Plan?
504 Plan focuses more on the environment of a student, whereas an IEP focuses on setting learning goals
What is ADT?
Associate Degree for Transfer = a joint program between California Community Colleges and California State Universities that makes it easier for students to transfer. Students who earn an ADT have guaranteed admission to a CSU campus

Ask a question that they already know the answer to. The action and feeling of raising your hand will help with feeling anxious.

They meet with students to help with study habits, academic assessments or any sort of additional academic support.

1 - Every semester, go half GE, half major prep ; 2 - Get GE’s out of the way, and then all major related classes after

True. It will show which classes are required to transfer for every school listed. Make sure to point out the pre-reqs (which will not be listed)

Yes. But test has to be taken and passed (have to score a 3 or 4) at the end of each AP course to be eligible

Another recommendation for helping students with testing anxiety:
Creating a “muscle memory” of preparation at home so that the testing anxiety is something he or she is used to
Recommendation for students who want a note-taker for their online class;
Can’t authorize note-taker for online classes but maybe the Kurzweil 3000 because it chunks it down to note format
Another difference between Student 504 Plan & IEP:
Student 504 is through the school, no testing, no state guidelines, and don’t have to meet twice a year ; IEP = you’ve been assessed, have to meet yearly, there’s goals and objectives
CC or college level students have to learn to:
Self advocate to be successful. In high school a lot of stuff is being done for you + people telling you what to do. College is not the same

In extreme circumstances, a “W” could be changed to an “EW” on a student’s transcript. It stands for emergency withdrawal. Example could be losing multiple family members within a month.

Why is it common for students to forget to do their Spartan Prep?
A lot of students don’t see it because it goes to their portal messaging and not their personal email

1 - Career Center ; 2 - JAIN (Can help with finding on and off campus internships/jobs)
What could be a good question for a student’s background/childhood?
“Growing up, was print accessible to you?” ; Trying to see if student was read to before bed, has access to books or any sort of education, if home was an “educational environment” = frequent language being spoken, musuem trips, library, theatre, etc.

Data Review based on LD Assessment Testing:
One of these two has to be equal to or over the score of 85 = (Verbal Comprehension or Perceptual Reasoning) ; If student has 85 in one of these areas, they are eligible to receive SAS services. (There has never been a student who hasn’t gotten at least an 85 in those two areas)

Difference between W’s and EW’s:
EW’s (Emergency withdrawals) are not counted towards progress ; W’s technically are. There isn’t a limit on W’s on a transcript, but a lot of them might look bad ; Documentation is needed for both explaining the situation ; COE will look at documentation and follow up with specific teachers
How many years does a student have to appeal their grade to a W?

90 units attempted, not completed
What are the 3 ways students can lose FA?
1 - Low GPA ; 2 - Not enough progress being made ; 3 - Exceeded units attempted

150% units ; Normally students only need 60 units to transfer or graduate so Ed Dept & FA provide that 50% leniency
With COVID, Ed Dept & FA did not give any leniancy on:

SAP appeal =
As long as there is valid reasoning -> SAP appeal can extend time to re-take classes failed or withdrawn (but if failed or withdrawn again SAP appeal can’t help again)
