Matter And Energy Flashcards
Solid
Definite shape and volume. Particles are rigid with very little movement
All matter is made of
Atoms and molecules that act like tiny particles
Liquid
Definite volume, NOT definite shape. Particles move more freely
Gas
No definite shape or volume. Particles move very fast and spread indefinitely.
Temperature, volume, and the number of particles.
Factors that influence gas pressure
Energy
The ability to change or move matter
To have a phase change,
Energy must be added or taken away
Going from solid to liquid to gas and back down. Doe NOT change wha it is made of (composition) or how much you have (mass)
Phase Change
Solid to liquid, energy is added (what phase change?)
Melting
Liquid to Gas, energy added
Evaporation/boiling
Gas to solid- energy taken away
Deposition
Solid to Gas, energy added (temperature)
Sublimation
Gas to liquid, energy taken away
Condensation
Liquid to Solid- energy taken away
Freezing
Mass canny be created or destroyed. After a chemical or physical change, mass is ALWAYS the same.
Law of Conservation of Mass
