Math test 1 Flashcards
What is prime facorization?
when you divide a number until you get its prime facors
How do you multiply fractions
Just multiply across
How to divide fractions?
Reciprocal
How to add/subract fractions?
Make denominaters the same
LCM?
Least common multiple.
DO prime factorization, select similar factors, multiply if needed. If not then that is the LCM
HCF?
Highest common factor. DO prime facorization. Select all facors from both numbers - if there are repeats choose the bigger one.
Multilplying decimals?
When multiplying decimals, line up decimal points and bring decimal down into answer how many decimal points there are in two original numbers
Dividing decimals?
Move decimal place until you have two whole numbers. then divide in the normal way (box thingy)
Proportions?
Use x bc mr degrazia wants to.
Ex. 2:4 = x:8
4 * 2 = 8
2 * 2= 4
x=4
Share __ into the ratio
Set up an algebraic equation
7x + 8x = 30
then combine the two
15x = 30
solve
x=2
Then to 7x2 + 8x2 which equals 14 + 16
a^m x a^n =
a ^(m+n)
a^m / a^n =
a^(m-n)
(a^m)^n=
a^mn
(ab)^m=
a^m x b^n
(a/b)^m=
a^m/b^m
