Algebra, data, measurement terms...
define: arc
part of the circumference of the circle
bimodal
distribution of data of two clear peaks
cartesian coordinates
ordered pair or triple used to specify a point on a plane or space, respectively
bivariate
containing two variables
constant of proportionality
the constant ratio between two propotionalities
coefficient
nummber multiplied by variable
correlation
the way two variables change together aka. covariation
dimensional analysis
applying the technique of multiplication by 1 with rates to convert from one unit to another
dependent variable
a variable that depends on atleast one variable
direct variation
when 2 variables increase or decrease at the same rate
erroneous
incorrect
extraneous
irrelevent
front end
and estimate method that focuses on the first digits of number when adding or subtracting and solving a simler problem
independent variable
a variable that determines the varibale of another variable
inequality symbols
< (less than), > (greater than), less than or equal to, greater than or equal to
inverse arithmatic opperations
math operations that cancel out eachother
inverse variation
when an increase or decrease in one variable produces a decrease or increase in another variable, respectively
least common multiple
the smallest number that is a multiple of twoor more nonzero whole numbers
mixed number
a number formed by an integer or a fraction
outlier
data point that is distinctly separate from another data ; an unexpected value
quadrants
cartesian graph of a plane, the four quarters the plane is divided by two axes; written in roman numerals; starts with quad. 1 in upper right and procedes counter clock-wise
rate of change
a rate that describes how one quantitiy changes in relation to another
reciprocol
one divided by the original number or for a nonzero fraction, a/b, the reciprocal is b/a
slope
rate of change; steepnes and direction; line of coordinate plane
umodal
distribution of data with a single clear peak
unit conversion
calculating equivalent values between systems of measurement
unit rate
rate that shows how many units of one quantity (in numerator) correspond to one unit of the second quantity (denominator);
ex: miles/ hour
variable term
any term including unknown quantity
standard diviation
statistics- data
quatity indicating the extent to which data varies from the mean
subtend
from an angle of a particular point of an arc
