Q

Linear expression

A

A linear expression is one where the highest power is 1. For example, 2x + 5 and a + 2b are linear expressions, but 2x^2 + 5 is not a linear expression.

Q

How do you identify if two portions are in direct proportion?

A

plotting them as a graph gives a straight line through the origin (0,0)
when one quantity is zero, the other quantity is also zero

Q

what are trends?

A

Line graphs can help you to identify trends in the data. The trend is the general direction of the change, ignoring the individual ups and downs.

Q

What are compound measures?

A

Compound measures combine measures of two different quantities. Speed is a measure of distance travelled and time taken. It can be measured in metres per second (m/s), kilometer per hour (km/h), or miles per hour (mph)

Q

Linear relationships

A

For a linear relationship the points on a graph form a straight line. When the points are not in a straight line the relationship is non-linear.

Q

If there is a question asking if a chart is misleading, make sure to look out for

A

No title; no labels or key; percentages add up to
more than 100; sectors are not in proportion.

Q

What is experimental probability

A

You can estimate the probability og an event using the results of an experiment. This is called finding the experimental probability. experimental probability = frequency of the event / total frequency

Q

What is the relative frequency

A

For a set of data, the relative frequency of a value = frequency of value / total frequency. You can calculate the expected frequency of a value in a larger set of data.

Q

how to work out percentage increase?

A

work out the difference. between the two numbers being compared.
divide the increase by the original number and multiply the answer by 100.
in summary: percentage increase = increase ÷ original number × 100.

Q

Alternate angles

A

When a line crosses two parallel lines it creates a ‘z’ shape. In side the Z shape are alternate angles. Alternate angles are equal.

Q

Corresponding angles

A

When a line crosses two parallel lines it creates an ‘F (U)’ shape. There are corresponding angles on an F shape. Corresponding angles are equal.

16
Q

Formula for the sum of the interior angles in a polygon?

A

S = (n - 2) * 180

17
Q

The sum of the exterior angles of a polygon always add to

A

360

18
Q

A scatter graph and correlation

A

A scatter graph shows a data set using two measures on the same graph. The shape of a scatter graph shows if there is a relationsjop or correlation between two measures

19
Q

What is the y intercept

A

The y-intercept is where a line crosses the y-axis.

20
Q

The gradient

A

The steepness of the graph is called the gradient.

21
Q

How to find the gradient?

A

To find the gradient, work out how many units the graph goes up ever 1 unit across. Gradients are positive (uphill) or negative (downhill) the larger the value, the steaper the gradient.
change in y / change in x
