Math Flashcards
How are the quadrants in a graph set up?
Start top right and move counter clockwise.
Coefficient
a numerical or constant quantity placed before and multiplying the variable in an algebraic expression (e.g. 4 in 4x y).
Degree
The squared or cubed. In an equation, the biggest degree is the one that needs to be identified.
Convex
No dents or indentations in the shape.
Concave
There are dents or indentations in the shape.
Dependent Variable
a variable (often denoted by y ) whose value depends on that of another.
Independent Variable
a variable (often denoted by x ) whose variation does not depend on that of another.
Commutative property
A math rule that says that the order in which we multiply numbers does not change the product
Distributive property
When you multiply a factor by two addends, you can first multiply the factor with each addend, and then add the sum.
Associative property
a math rule that says that the way in which factors are grouped in a multiplication problem does not change the product.
Triangular prism vs pyramid
With a pyramid, all four triangles are the same size. Prisms have sets of two matching triangles with a rectangular base.
10^0 equals
1
Mean
average or norm. Add all the values and divide by the amount of values.
Median
Middle of all the numbers placed in order.
Mode
Most frequent value.
