Maternal Fetal Blood Flow Flashcards
Describe the umbilical cord.
2 arteries- remove deoxygenated blood
1 vein- delivers oxygenated blood
Talk through Uteroplacental circulation.
Blood flows through uterine arteries-to the placenta- which enters the umbilical vein (oxygenated blood)-and bypasses the liver via the ductus venosus- this goes to the inferior vena cava/ superior vena cava deposit volume into the right atrium.
The blood flow enters the left atrium via the foramen ovale.
Blood flow enters the left atrium and then the left ventricle and onto the aorta.
The connection between the pulmonary artery and the aorta called the ductus arteriosus.
True or false: Once the cord is clamped, this causes the pressures on the left side becomes higher than on the right side and cause the ducts to close.
True
Where does the ductus venosus send blood?
This bypasses the liver
Where does the foramen ovale send blood?
This sends blood from the right side to the left side.
Where does the ductus arteriosus send blood?
This is the blood that goes to the brain.
