A
emotional and intellectual consequences of extended separation between child and mother or mother substitute, child loses aspect of care within critical period

- one criticism is that finding of juvenile thieves are based on retrospective data
- relies on parents memory to remember early childhood of thieves
- therefore they could lie to present themselves in a better light / or simply forgot
- reduces internal validity of research into MD

- the theory says there are potential negative consequences of separation in early childhood that leads to changes in society
