Material Properties Flashcards
Ductility
Length that material can be stretched without breaking
Elasticity
Length a material can be stretched and return to original length when released
Density
A material’s mass in relation to its size
Strength
Measure of how a material withstands a heavy load without breaking
Fusibility
How easily a material’s state can be altered to become a liquid
Absorbency
A material’s ability to soak up and retain liquid, heat or light
Electrical conductivity
How easily electrical energy can pass through a material
Thermal conductivity
How easily heat energy can pass through material
Resistance to moisture
A materials ability to prevent liquid and moisture permeating its surface
Hardness
The resistance a material has to cutting and surface indentations
Toughness
The amount of energy a material can absorb without breaking
Malleability
Amount of hammering, pressure and shaping a material can take without breaking
