Q

what happens during the eagling phases of swallowing

A
  1. contraction of Mylohyoid and Digastric muscles (both bellies) will raise the hyoid bone and the tongue altogether, pushing the food bolus against the palate (which is closing the Nasopharynx)
  2. contraction of the Geniohyoid will increase the lumen of the Oropharynx to receive the bolus
  3. contraction of the Stylohyoid pulls the hyoid bone and tongue further upwards and backward squeezing the bolus down the Hypopharynx
