Biliary tree and pancreas Flashcards
how does the pancreas lie int he abdomen
- in the posterior part
- from the loop of the duodenum to the spleen
what is the pancreas divided into
- head
- neck
- body
- tail
what are the divisions on the duodenum
he duodenum is divided into first, second, third and fourth parts (superior, descending, horizontal and ascending)
whats the blood supply to the pancreas
- no superior mesenteric
- coeliac trunk
what does the head of the pancreas surrounds
The head of the pancreas surrounds the superior mesenteric artery and vein, with the uncinate process wrapping around them posteriorly
what units to form the common hepatic ducts
- the left and right hepatic ducts
what does the common hepatic duct join
- the common hepatic joins the cystic duct to from the bile duct
what does the billiard tree constitutes of
The biliary tree consists of the (common) hepatic ducts, the cystic duct, the bile duct and the gall bladder.
what makes up the structure of the gall bladder
- fundus
- body
- neck
what does the bile duct unit with
The bile duct unites with the pancreatic duct to form the hepatopancreatic ampulla, which opens into the second part of the duodenum at the major duodenal papilla
what are secretions into the duodenum controlled by
- they are controlled by the sphincter of Oddi
how do you diagnose pancreatic and billiary disease
ERCP
describe how ERCP works
- A fibreoptic endoscope is passed through the mouth, oesophagus and stomach, into duodenum.
- Then a cannula is inserted into the major duodenal papilla for injection of radiographic contrast medium
