MASSAGE Flashcards
an excellent form of passive exercise. It is systemic rubbing and manipulation of different parts of the body for therapeutic benefits.
● The word massage is derived from the Greek word ‘massein’, or the French word ‘masser’, which both mean: to kneed.
Massage
PURPOSES OF MASSAGE
● To promote Relaxation
● To reduce muscle spasm
● To improve Blood flow
● To increase Venous drainage
● To prevent injuries
● To promote flexibility
Apply light and repetitive compression and effleurage strokes, repeat about 5-7 times.
The application of pressure should be about30mmHg or the weight of a nickel resting on yourskin.
Use ½ to 1 inch effleurage strokes or circular strokes.
Keep your body and hands relaxed when applying strokes.
Pumping: 3 rhythmic compression strokes
Sweeping: A series of short, superficial effleurage strokes that sweep proximally.
a smooth, gliding stroke used to relax tissue.
Effleurage
kneading, picking up, wringing, skin rolling] - the squeezing, rolling or kneading that follows effleurage.
➔ Tapotement (percussion) [clapping
Petrissage
kneading, picking up, wringing, skin rolling] - the squeezing, rolling or kneading that follows effleurage.
Petrissage (pressure)
clapping, beating, hacking, pounding] - a short alternating tap done with cupped hand, fingers or the edge of hands
Tapotement (percussion)
deep, circular movements that cause layer of tissue to rub against each other, helping to increase blood flow and break down scar tissue
Friction
Deep tissue massage is best for giving to certain painful attention to certain painful, stiff “trouble spots” in your body
● The massage therapist use slow deliberate strokes that focus pressure on layer of muscles, tendons or other tissue deep under your skin
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
○ Increase blood flow, histamine release and temperature
○ Decreased heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure
Cardiovascular System
Increase flexibility, decrease neuromuscular excitability, edema, reduction stretch muscle and scar tissue
Neuromuscular System
DOTS
Directly Observed Therapy Short-course
Objectives of DOTS
1.. Early identification of presumptive TB & prompt diagnosis
2. To cure or successfully treat DS-TB & DR-TB patients
3. To prevent development of active TB by providing TB preventive treatment
systematic screening in health facilities among all consults.
Intensified Case finding (ICF)
systematic screening implemented outside health facilities. By bringing the screening examination/procedures such as chest X-ray to the community
Active Case Finding (ACF)
systematic screening in the community using symptoms screening, such as house to-house visits by community workers
Enhance Case Finding
TESTING:
● Chest X-Ray
● Tuberculin Skin Testing
● Gene X pert
TREATMENT
a personalized treatment plan to be completed and mutually agreed upon by both the health-care provider and the patient throughout the course of treatment
Individualized treatment and care plan
refers to the systematic identification of presumptive TB in a predetermined target group, using examinations or other procedures that can be applied rapidly.
Systematic screening for active TB
systematic screening implemented outside health facilities (i.e. high-risk populations or settings) by bringing the screening examination/procedures such as chest X-ray to the community.
Active case finding (ACF)
systematic screening in health facilities among all consults. In the program context, ICF will also utilize chest X-ray screening.
Intensified case finding (ICF)
systematic screening in the community using symptoms screening, such as house-to-house visits by community workers
Enhanced case finding (ECF)
refers to screening using any of the four cardinal TB signs and symptoms. The four cardinal signs and symptoms of TB are at least two weeks duration of cough, unexplained fever, unexplained weight loss and night sweats
Symptom-based screening
refers to any person having: I. two weeks or longer of any of the following - cough, unexplained fever, unexplained weight loss, night sweats; or II. chest X-ray finding suggestive of TB
Presumptive pulmonary tuberculosis
refers to the test or tool that is used initially to detect presumptive TB in the systematic screening of TB may be symptom-based or chest X-ray.
Primary screening tool
refers to the test or tool that is used initially to detect presumptive TB in the systematic screening of TB may be symptom-based or chest X-ray.
Primary screening tool
a person who shared an enclosed space, such as the household, a social gathering place, workplace or facility, for extended periods within the day with the index case during the three months before diagnosis of TB
Close contact
Prevention
● Providing TB preventive treatment to eligible high risk
● Also referred to as Latent TB Infection treatment or preventive therapy
