What is soil creep
A
soil expands when you add water.
lifted at a right angle
shrinks as it dries. pulled down by gravity

What is mudflow
A
Unconsolidated material
Water (eg rainwater) mixes with the rainwater
top layer slides down the slope

What is landslide
A
Happens in hard rocks built up by layers
- top layer gets saturated with rain and becomes too heavy
- lubricated by water
- slides over the layer beneath

What is rotational slip?
A
On a curved surface or rock
- prolonged rainfall is absorbed by the soil
- soil gets heavy and slips due to gravity

What is rockfall?
A
Slow, happens over a long period of time.
- Freeze-thaw weathering causes pressure in rock to expand
- Rock will fall and collect as scree at the base of the cliff
