What is diffusion?
A process of a higher concentration spreading out a lower concentration
What is osmosis?
A process of substances moving from lower to higher concentration and making both sides even
What is facilitated diffusion?
A process of substances moving from higher to lower concentration without using energy, but using a carrier molecule
What does it mean to be selectively permeable?
To allow certain molecules to pass through
What is an equilibrium?
Two substances are equally spread out or divided
What is hypertonic?
Environment has higher concentration; makes cell shrink
What is hypotonic?
Cell has higher concentration; makes cell bigger
What is isotonic?
Both environment and cell have equal concentration
What is a contractile vacuole?
Vacuole that expands and contracts, pushing out water to outside of cell
What is passive transport?
Moving substances across cell membrane without using ATP/energy
What is active transport?
Moving substances across cell membrane using ATP/energy
What is endocytosis?
Process of taking substances into the cell
What is exocytosis?
Process of expelling substances from cell
Why were the potatoes in the salt solution more flexible than the potatoes in the water?
Salt solution has higher salt content
