CORRESPONDANCE THEORY

A

AO1 - education primary function = reproduction of workforce = train for capatilism through hidden curriculum
AO2 - bowles and ginitis = correspondence principle = school mirrors work e.g. rewards, sanctions, hierarchies, uniforms
- school legitimise inequality = meritocracy is myth (wc students socialised into wc jobs = mc advantaged (mirrors davis + moore role allocation)
❌AO3 - functionalists argue this benefits society, not unfair

ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

A

AO1 - education ineffective as agent of socialisation
AO2 - willis - observed ‘the lads’ = anti school subculture = status + praise by going against sch norms
- supports myth of meritocracy (preferred to leave education + career in manual labour instead of social mobility)
❌AO3 - ‘the lads’ could of purposely misbehaved infront of willis (hawthorne effect)
✅wc boys ended up in wc jobs = education reproduces inquality

CULTURAL REPRODUCTION

A

AO1 - education = based on mc values e.g. elaborated speech, mc literature = students with similar mc backround are advantaged = wc less cultural capital
AO2 - bourdieu - cultural reproduction model - habitus (how they were socialised) + field (norms, cultural context) = cultural capital (knowledge + skill) e.g. formal uniform = favour mc habitus
❌AO3 - functionalists - education = meritocratic + knowledge taught is for success in society

IDEOLOGICAL STATE APPARATUS

A

AO1 - ruling class control by isp (control beliefs e.g. education, religion, media)
AO2 - althusser - school = isp as it preps wc for exploitation + capatilism e.g. teach maths + literacy until 18 for employment = reproduce inequality (promoting meritocracy but wc limited by material factors)
❌AO3 - postm - education is a way of expressing ability in contemporary society
