lads formed counter school sub - cultural groups due to opposed values of school. They showed little interest in academic work + amused themselves by ‘having laff’, smoking,drinking etc

counter school culture helped prepare for boredom in workplace as they adopted similar distraction techniques in the workplace

cultural capital crucial to education system as it recognises + rewards certain types of cultural background + teachers recognise this

A

close correspondence between social relationships in class + work

school based on hierarch e.g. teachers give orders + pupils have little control which corresponds later to lack of control in workplace and is in line with requirements of capitalist society. yp motivated by rewards in school + this reflected in workplace - correspondence between school and work produces labour power from one generation to the next.
