What was his philosophy of dialogue?
A
Argued that morality is determined through relationships developed with others and the rest of the world.
Human existence is primarily about relationships.
There are two kinds of relationships.
I-it
I-Thou

What was the I-It relationship?
A
- Everyday kind of relationship between the person and the things around them.
- Not true dialogue, the participants are only involved to gain something from the other.

What was the I-thou relationship?
A
- Person enters into the relationship entirely.
- Both members are equal, forming true dialogue on a personal level.
- “When two people truly relate to each other, God is the electricity that surges between them” ~ Buber

What was the Eternal Thou?
A
Relationship between human and divine is evident in common relationships and interactions seen between man and other elements of creation.
- God is present in all human interactions.
- Thus it constitutes ongoing revelation, as opposed to the single biblical revelations such as Moses.
- “All real living is meeting” ~ Buber.
