mark release recapture Flashcards

1
Q

How does this work?

A

= capture an intiial sample
= indivuals of sample are marked, and released back, count how much captured
= the marked are released and left to allow them to randomly disperse, throughout the habitat
= a second sample is captured, the number of those marked are taken
= size of populatio is estimated,

Q

What are the ethics?

A

= capturew and marking must not be harmful
= the mark needs to be non toxic, not increase chance of predation and not reduce chances of reprduction

Q

What are some assumptions that are being made?

A

= estimate may not be accurate
= population size is constant, (no death, birth migration)
= animals always redistribute evenly
