. He was a promoter of pan Africanism
. Worked with Booker.T Washington and to an extent attempted to improve economic conditions for African Americans

. Were designed to promote manufacture and trade among Africans as well as support his idea of Pan Africanism.
What organisation did he establish in 1912 and what was the importance of this organisation?
. Garvey set up the UNIA or Universal Negro Improvement Association in Jamaica in 1912.
. While not achieving a whole lot the organisation was claimed to have over 4million members, this number could be matched by no other organisation until the 1960’s.
What caused Marcus Garvey’s ventures to fail?
. He was imprisoned for fraud and as a result his economic and commercial ventures collapsed without his leadership, as a result he was unable rally enough support once he had been released from prison, therefore meaning he was unable to have another large impact on Civil Rights.
