Map Projection
the way to show the Earth’s curved surface on a flat map. All maps distort Earth and each one does it in a different way.
Globe
A spherical presentation of the earth and the only accurate way to show the earth
Hemisphere
A term meaning 1/2 of the globe can be divided in half, north and south at the equator or east and west at the prime meridian.

maps which show land forms and bodies of water.
political maps
maps which show features human have created on Earth.
Thematic Maps
Maps which focus on one idea
Cartogram
Presents information using size and shape. the size of each country on a Cartogram is determined by the data being presented
Continent
a major area of land on Earth
Arctic Circle
An imaginary line located at 66 and 1/2 degrees north of the equator.
Tropic of Cancer
An imaginary line of latitude located at 23 and 1/2 degrees north of the equator. marks the northern boundary of earth’s tropic zone.
Equator
An imaginary line that divides the world in half, north and south
Tropic of Capricorn
An imaginary line of latitude located at 23 and 1/2 degrees south of the equator. Marks the southern boundary of Earth’s tropic zone
Antarctic Circle
An imaginary line located at 66 and 1/2 degrees south of the equator
Prime meridian
An imaginary line that divides the world in half, east and west
