Name the seven continents and four oceans.
North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica. Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, and Arctic Ocean.
What is a continent?
A principal land mass on Earth.
What is an Ocean?
An entire body of salt water covering approx. 3/4 of Earth’s surface.
What is a hemisphere?
Either the northern and southern half of the earth divided by the Equator or east and west divided by the Prime Meridian.
What is the Equator?
An imaginary line dividing the world in half, north and south.
What is the Prime Meridian?
An imaginary line dividing the world in half, east and west.
What is the International Dateline?
An imaginary line of longitude 180 degrees which states the regions to the east are one day earlier than to the west.
What is north?
The direction along the meridian 90 degrees counter clockwise from east.
What is south?
The direction along the meridian 90 degrees clockwise from east.
What is East?
The direction of Earth’s axial rotation.
What is west?
The opposite direction of Earth’s axial rotation.
Which continents are in the eastern hemisphere?
Europe Africa Asia Australia Antarctica
Which continents are almost entirely in the northern hemisphere.?
North America
