Map Scale
A map scale compares a distance on the map to a distance in the real world and can be used to find the real distance between places on a map.
Locator
A locator is similar to an inset map. It helps you locate where the place is in the world.
Intermediate Directions
The intermediate directions are northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest.
Inset Map
An inset map is a small map within a larger map that shows where on the globe the place is located.
Map Key
A map key, or legend, explains the symbols on a map.
Compass Rose
A compass rose shows cardinal and intermediate directions.
Cardinal Directions
The cardinal directions are north, south, east and west.
Grid System
The grid system is a pattern of squares on the map. Each square can be identified by a letter and number.
Prime Meridian
The Prime Meridian is an imaginary line that separates the Eastern and Western Hemisphere.
Map Title
A map title tells the subject of the map and can also tell you what kind of map it is.
Equator
The equator is an imaginary line that separates the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.
Longitude
Longitude is the distance east or west of the prime meridian, which is an imaginary line that separates the Eastern and Western Hemisphere.
Grid System
The grid system is a pattern of squares on a map. Each square can be identified by a letter and number.

Latitude is the distance north or south of the equator, which is an imaginary line that separates the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.
