Where is the manual pump shift control located?
Located on the pump panel.
When should the manual shift be utilized?
When the air shift fails to engage the fire pump.
How many people are required to operate the manual override?
Two. This should be practiced with a partner, so that this skill becomes automatic if the air shift fails.
Manual Pump Shift steps
9 steps
- Position one person in the driver’s seat and one person at the pump panel
- Shift the transmission into neutral (N).
- Set the Parking brake
- Apply service brake by depressing and holding the brake pedal.
- Place pump shift control in neutral. (the middle position)
- Engage manual shift handle. (push the manual shift T-handle in towards the pump panel with steady pressure using the palm of your hand.)
- After engagement, move the pump shift control into the pump position.
- Shift the truck into drive.
- You are now is pump mode. Pump shift light in cab will be on. DO NOT THROTTLE UNLESS LIGHT IS ON!
The speedometer should indicate what, when in pump mode?
12-18 mph.
When should water be pumped after engaging the fire pump?
Immediately
What should be done to help keep water cool?
Open recirculate valve.
open tank fill valve
Running pump dry for more than a few minutes will
damage the fire pump
The pump will return to idle if this happens
