Manual mm Testing Flashcards
Gastroc
Soleus
Prone
Knee flexed 90
Quads
Sitting on edge of bed gripping sides
Knee ext (3)
Stabilise under knee, and apply pressure at ankle and resist the movement (4-5)
Side lying
Hold upper leg
Lower leg does the motion
5 = max resistance
4 = mod resistance
3 = ACROM
2 = Gravity removed (side lying PROM)
1 = Palpable activity
Hip Flexors
Sitting on edge of bed gripping sides
Knee to chest (3)
Knee at mid range. Use two hands to push down on thigh (4-5)
Side lying
Support underside of top leg, and assist in hip flex (2)
5 = max resistance
4 = mod resistance
3 = ACROM
2 = Gravity removed (side lying PROM)
1 = Palpable activity
Hamstring
Lying Prone
Rotate foot medially = semimembranosus and semitendinosus
Rotate foot laterally = bicep femoris
Knee at 90 degrees
Hand on achilles applying resistance
Side lying
Top leg supported, bottom leg working
1 = Palpable activity (remember foot medial/lateral)
2 = Side lying /gravity eliminated
3 = Prone knee flexion
4 = mod resistance
5 = max resistance
Hip Extensors
Lying prone
knee extended
Leg lifted off the table
Stabilise
Resistance applied at the achilles
Side lying
Top leg hip extension (standing behind PT)
1 = Palpable activity
2 = Side lying /gravity eliminated
3 = Prone hip extension
4 = mod resistance
5 = max resistance
Shoulder Internal rotation
Prone
Head facing untested arm
Shoulder on towel
Elbow crease on the edge of bed
Palpate on the anterior surface of scapula (armpit)
PT has slight internal rotation, the apply resistance at the wrist
Prone
No towel
Entire arm off the edge of the bed
Externally rotate arm
1 = Palpable activity
2 = Side lying /gravity eliminated
3 = Prone hip extension
4 = mod resistance
5 = max resistance
Shoulder External Rotation
Prone
Head facing untested arm
Shoulder on towel
Elbow crease on the edge of bed
Palpate infraspinatus (on scapula)
Stabilise at the trap
Bring wrist parallel to the head
Apply resistance on the wrist
Prone
No towel
Entire arm off the edge of the bed
Externally rotate arm
1 = Palpable activity
2 = Side lying /gravity eliminated
3 = Prone hip extension
4 = mod resistance
5 = max resistance
Adductors
Lying on side
Bottom leg is action leg
Support top leg
PT performs Copenhagen movement
Apply resistance at distal femur
Supine
Legs shoulder width apart
Adduct
Biceps
Seated
Stabilise the shoulder of the testing arm
PT starts in max flexion
Apply resistance at the wrist
Seated
Arm abducted wresting on bed
Edge of bed should be tucked under armpit
Flex bicep towards chest
Triceps
Supine
Glute max
Lying prone
knee at 90 degrees
leg lifted off the table
Resistance at distal femur
Stabilise
Side lying
Top leg 90 degree, extend hip
1 = Palpable activity
2 = Side lying /gravity eliminated
3 = Prone hip extension
4 = mod resistance
5 = max resistance
