Q

Secondary Fascial Space

A

Become involved/infected directly from primary fascial spaces (only infected after something has coursed its way through a primary space)

Superficial and deep temporal spaces

Masticator region

  • EXCEPT infratemporal space - considered a primary fascial space
  • (Sub) Masseteric space
  • Pterygomandibular space (pterygoid)

Q

Superficial and Deep Temporal Space

A

Secondary spaces on either side of the temporalis muscle!

Superficial temporal space = between the temporal fascia and temporalis muscle

Deep temporal space = between the temporalis muscle and the lateral surface of the skull

Masticator Region Spaces

A

Space that lies on either side of the mandibular ramus

Subdivisions:

Q

Masseteric Space Borders

A

Masseteric Space
A secondary space

A space located between the masseter muscle and lateral surface of the ramus of the mandible

An area of the insertion of the masseter muscle that is less dense, allowing detachment of the periosteum from the bone

Anterior - buccal fascia

**Posterior **- parotid gland

Medial - mandible

**Lateral **- masseter muscle

**Superior **- lateral pterygoid muscle

Inferior - mandible

Lateral - mandible

Superior - lateral pterygoid muscle

Inferior - mandible and medial pterygoid muscle

Anterior - buccinator

Posterior - parotid fascia and mandible
