Managing behavior problems in PT Flashcards
Why are boundaries important?
- Boundaries mark edge of the playing field for choices
- Children will try desired and undesirable behaviors to test boundaries
ABC acronym for understanding child behavior
- Antecedent - what comes before a bx
- Behavior
- Consequence - what comes after a bx
What is differential reinforcement?
Process of reinforcing a specific response in a partciular context and not reinforcing other responses
What is successive approximation?
A series of rewards that provide positive reinforcement for behavior changes that are successive steps towards the final desired behavior. “Shapes” behavior
What is extinction behavior?
The discontinuing of a reinforcement of a previously reinforced bx
What is behavior modification?
A treatment based approach based on the principles of operant conditioning, that replaces undesirable bx with more desirable ones through positive or negative reinforcement
What is operant conditioning?
A learning based process based on reward and consequences to bx; works with voluntary responses
What is classical conditioning?
A learning process based on pair stimuli/association; works on involuntary responses
What is positive reinforcement?
Adding something to increase behavior
What is negative reinforcement?
Removing something to increase behavior
What is positive punishment?
Add something to decrease behavior
What is negative punishment?
Remove something to decrease behavior
