How is management/leadership style determined ?
Through the business size, scale, nature, employee and manager/leader skills and experience, values of business, type of industry
What is autocratic leadership ?
Where one manager holds authority. This is a traditional method of leadership, using control and command. It ensures quick decisions are made, making it simple. Staff may become de-motivated due to to having no involvement
What is Democratic leadership ?
Democratic leadership is where the workforce is involved in making decisions which defines a modern view of leadership. This increases employee satisfaction as they feel valued. However this may be time-consuming as multiple employees are involved
What is Laissez-faire leadership ?
A laid back leadership style where the workforce is highly skilled, therefore decisions are made easily. This increases staff motivation. However this is only useful if the workforce is highly skilled.
What is Paternalistic leadership ?
It is when there is a father figure within the organisation. This is effective when employees need someone to follow. It also involves authority of the manager/leader which may de-motivate staff.
What is Charismatic leadership ?
When the workforce need someone to follow. This is effective when there is change within a business. The role-model manager/leader may also be self-obsessed and not focus on staff
What is Transactional leadership ?
Where managers/leaders believe staff must be rewarded to stay motivated. This increases productivity and efficiency within the organisation, yet only effective for the short-term
What is transformational leadership ?
Where managers/leaders motivate and influence staff positively. Negative organisations can be turned around but change may be hard to execute if staff are already de-motivated
