What does the mammary gland respond to with pregnancy?
It begins to respond to estrogen and rising levels of progesterone. And alveoli begin to proliferate at the end of the duct system.
What cells respond to oxytocin? What does this cause?
Myoepithelial cells surrounding both the alveoli and ducts respond to oxytocin (released from the pars nervosa in response to suckling) by contracting, a feedback mechanism called to milk-ejection reflex.
What is in the connective tissue derived from the endometrial storma of the uterus?
Basophilic decidual cells.
What hormones are produced by Decidual cells?
Prolactin and Relaxin.
What is the function of relaxin?
Helps soften the cervical connective tissue prior to parturition.
