Abiraterone acetate
17alpha hydroxylase inhibitor. Prevents testosterone synthesis. 2nd, 3rd, 4th line of treatment when others don’t work.
When is Bicalutamide administered?
For first few weeks to prevent effect of the GnRH agonists which initially stimulate the production of testosterone and dihydrotestosterone.
What is Aminoglutethimide?
Prostate cancer treatment. Blocks pregnenolone synthesis.
What are the Aromatase inhibitors?
Anastrazole, Letrozol. Prevent conversion of testosterone to estradiol and androstenedione to estrone. Exemestane irreversibly inhibits the enzyme.
What are the Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators?
SERMs. Tamoxifen, Raloxifene, and Tormifene. Agonists on some estrogen receptors and antagonists at others. Termed modulators.
What drug is an agonist on the uterus?
Tamoxifen
What drug is an antagonist on the bone?
Fulvestrant
How does progesterone prevent pregnancy?
It can’t prevent pregnancy after ovulation, it can only prevent ovulation to begin with. If patient has already ovulated, drug has no effect.
What are the combinations used to treat breast CA?
5-FU, Doxorubicin (anthracyclines), cyclophosphamide (FAC). Cyclophosphamide, Methotrexate and 5-FU (CMF). Paclitaxel. Tamoxifen, Tormefene and Fulvestrant. Anastrozole, Letrozole and Exemestane. Trastuzumab.
