Mammalian tissues Flashcards
What are the 4 main groups of Mammalian tissues?
- Epithelial tissue
- Connective tissue
- Muscle tissue
- Nervous tissue
What is epithelial tissue?
The surface cells that cover a body and organs inside a body
What are the 2 main types of epithelium?
Simple and Stratified
What is the inner most layer of epithelial tissues attached to?
A sheet of protein called the basement membrane
What is ciliated epithelium?
Cells that include a goblet cell and cilia
What are functions of epithelium tissue?
Protection, Secretion and filtration
What is the function of connective tissue?
Hold, support and protect organs and other tissues
What is the special feature of connective tissue?
The living cells are found in a large matrix
What is Areolar connective tissue?
Soft and subtle tissue that makes a good packing tissue
What is dense connective tissue?
- Tendons (bone to muscle)
- Ligaments (bone to bone)
What are tendons and ligaments made out of?
Tendons= white fibrous cartilage
Ligaments= yellow elastic cartilage
What are cartilage cells called?
Chondrocytes
What are bones cells called?
Osteocytes
What is the liquid matrix of blood
Plasma
What are the 3 components of blood?
1) Erythrocytes (RBC)
2) Leucocytes (WBC)
3) Thrombocytes (platelets)
