male reproductive system Flashcards
All male reproductive spots on the diagram to remember
urethra, penis, bladder, prostate, rectum, vas deferens, scrotum (outside of testis), testis
The bladder and its purpose?
The bladder is the muscular sac that stores urine (pee) until it is released through the urethra.
The urethra and its purpose?
Overall the function of the male urethra is to allow passage of urine and semen. The urethra connects the distal portions of the urinary system, such as the urinary bladder, to the external environment and allows for urine excretion from the body.
The penis and its purpose
Penis — the organ used for urination and sexual intercourse. It has spongy tissue that can fill with blood to cause an erection. It contains the urethra, which carries both urine and semen.
The prostate and its purpose?
The prostate’s most important function is the production of a fluid that, together with sperm cells from the testicles and fluids from other glands, makes up semen
the rectum and its purpose?
The primary function of the rectum is to collect and hold your poop until it’s time to release it.
The vas deferens and its purpose?
The vas deferens transports mature sperm to the urethra in preparation for ejaculation.
the scrotum and its purpose?
The scrotum is responsible for protecting the testes. It helps with the thermoregulation of the testicles. It keeps the temperature of the testis several degrees below the average body temperature, which is an essential factor for sperm production.
the testis and its purpose?
The testes are responsible for making sperm and are also involved in producing a hormone called testosterone.
