Male Pelvis Flashcards

Q

What is the nerve supply of the testis?

Which other external genetalia has the same blood supply?

A

Sympathetic nerves from T10
Pass in lesser splanchnic nerves to coeliac ganglion and then run with the testicular artery

PS nerves from pelvic splanchnic nerves via inferior hypogastric plexus

Visceral nerve afferents share same pathway as sympathetic

Epididymis

Q

Describe the innervation of ejaculation

A
Under sympathetic + somatic control
Symp outflow (T11-L2) causes smooth muscle contraction of epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, ejaculatory ducts + prostate, transporting seminal fluid to prostatic urethra

Thereafter rhythmic contraction of muscles (bulbo-spongiosus + ischio-cavernosus) supplied by perineal nerve - compresses penile urethra to expel the seminal fluid

Contraction of internal urethral meatus prevents retro-grade flow into bladder

Q

Which nerves are responsible for erection?

A

Under para-sympathetic control via pelvic splanchnic nerves (S2-S4)
Causes vasodilation vessels in copora cavernosa
