What do you look for
Penis
Scrotum
Scrotal sac with ruggae
Symmetry, size and colour of scrotum
Examine testes by
Start at inner thing and work down the testes
Make sure there are 2
Undertake palpation of in inguinal canal and perineum if can’t be found
If found high in inguinal canal, should be managed as if positive result
Micropenis
Less than 1.75cm
Sign of hormonal issue
Hypospadias
1 in 250 males opening of the urethra below tip on the bottom side of penis
Do no circumcise as need foreskin for surgery
Hydrocele
Fluid collection around testes
Testicular torsion
When a testicle rotates twisting spermatic cord that bring blood to scrotum
Causes necrosis
Painful ad discolouration
Screen negative
Nipe t 6-8 weeks
Healthy chid programme
Screen positive bilateral
Within 24hrs exam by senior lead to rule it disorder of sex development and metabolic condition =s
Positive unilateral
Review by go during nipe at 6-8 weeks corrected age
Positive at nipe 6-8 weeks
Bilateral - refer to paed
Unilateral - gp review 4-5 months, if still unilateral or under end refer to surgeon - to be seeen before 6 months of age
