Allah’s creations
- They were created before humans
- created them with nur (divine light)
Traits
- they have no free will
- they exist ro carry out will of Allah
- they praise Allah and are obedient to him
- they are free from sin
- they are immortal
- can sometimes take forms of humans (Jibra’il to Mary)
- they have no physical needs so are able to constantly serve Allah
Messengers
- Muslims believe that angels are there to help them
- because of how divine Allah is he cannot directly communicate with humans. He gets angels to deliver messages instead
- Allah’s way to communicate to humans on Earth
Angels role in DOJ
- Angels record all humans do and say, ready for Day of Judgement
- On this day, Angels will welcome into heaven all those who have been obedient to Allah
- those who have been disobedient will be thrown to hell

- Each person assigned two recording angels

Jibra’il
- chief angel
- brought Allah’s message to Muhammad and all other prophets
- took the form of a human when appeared to Mary, mother of Isa
Angel Jibril (known in Christianity as the Angel Gabriel) always brings good news. He is mentioned in both the Qur’an and the Hadith.
He revealed Allah’s words (the Qur’an) to Muhammad on the Night of Power so he is known as the Angel of Revelation. He played a vital role in communicating the final version of Islam to humanity.
The Angel Jibril appeared to Maryam, who in Christianity is known as Mary. Jibril told her she was pregnant with Isa (Jesus).
Jibril knows the beauty of Paradise but also how hard it is to get there. He has seen Hell and knows that no one would want to be sent there.
Izra’il
- angel of death
- responsible for ending of each person’s life by taking their final breath
Israfil
- angel of the last judgment
- blow the trumpet to announce the Day of Judgment
Mika’il
- named once in the Qur’an
- guardian of heaven
Also known as Michael, the Angel Mika’il is a friend to humanity and known as the giver of rain and food. He is believed to reward people who do good deeds.
He asks Allah to forgive people’s sins as he is the Angel of Mercy. Both the Angel Jibril and the Angel Mika’il will be present on the Day of Judgement.
