- Continuous process as each muslim strives to follow ‘the straight path’ + please Allah
- Muslims are learning to be obedient to Allah
- duties help m increasingly live a faithful life possibly even being prepared to die for their faith one day if it becomes necessary
- reward = entering paradise after death
- achieving this requires Muslims to overcome many negative qualities = greed + anger
- striving against doing what is wromg (munkar) and seeking to do what is right (maruf)
- built upon the teachings of the Qur’an
- secrion of Qur’an sets up Muslims as the best models of society
- GJ is essential for all Muslims takes precedence over lesser jihad
