what is her major weakness?
Slowed down in the middle 50 as a result of going out too hard in the first 25.
how are you going to fix it?
I am going to plan around an 8 week macrocycle consisting of 2x4 weeks mesoccycle and applying a microcycle of a week. The first 4 weeks I am going to see her before event so some pacing work can be done in preparation for the event to get her thinking about the middle 50 and develop kinesthesis for how quick the middle 50 should feel if she wants to get a personal best. We will do one session a week
- Twice a week on a Wednesday and Friday – this is because they are already at a very high level and have education on top of training so time is limited so within her university training programme she will already be doing a lot of training. The pool will only be 40minutes – an hour as will include a warmup and then pace work followed by a cool down as this will prevent injury post training. The gym session will only be half an hour maybe 45 minutes and will focus on her big leg muscle groups working them hard so we can develop her other weakness of leg kick. This work will be explosive and low weight high reps as we want to build strength endurance so weight can be built up but we want her muscles to feel under pressure but for a long time
Second 4 weeks
During the second 4 weeks I would see Lauren directly after a competition to work on fatigue threshold and recovery rate but would also see her before but a day earlier on Thursday so she doesn’t have too long between sessions but still has some rest.
- On a Monday and Thursday as competitions tend to be over the full weekend so working on the Monday gives her a bit of rest after a long weekend but also means she is straight back in.

Focus is developing kinaesthesis of how the middle 50 at pace should feel
what is the aim of micro 1
Aim is to get her basic knowledge of what the pace timing feels like and recognizing other ways we can help improve the time e.g. underwaters
what is the aim of micro 2
Aim is to continue developing this kinaesthesis by doing the same this week
what is the aim of micro 3
Some basic kinaesthesis should be in place now so making sure she is beginning to taper down for the competition
