Major Muscle Groups Flashcards
What are the actions and location of the Trapezius?
Crosses the shoulder joint. Elevates the shoulders and extends the neck. Upper fibres extend the neck and elevate the scapula/shoulder girdle. Middle fibres retract the scapula/shoulder girdle. Lower fibres depresses the scapula/shoulder girdle
What are the actions and location of the Pectoralis Major?
Crosses the shoulder joint. Adduction and inward/medial/internal rotation of the arm
What are the actions and location of the Rhomboids?
Crosses the shoulder gridle. Retracts the shoulder girdle and rotates the scapula (medially/internally)
What are the actions and location of the Latissimus Dorsi?
Crosses the shoulder joint. Adducts, extends and inwardly/medially/internally rotates the shoulder
What are the actions and location of the Erector Spinae?
Crosses the vertebrae joint. Extends the spine. Rotates the thoracic spine
What are the actions and location of the Deltoids?
Crosses the shoulder joint. Abducts the arm. Assists in shoulder rotation (medial and lateral) and horizontal flexion and extension
What are the actions and location of the Tricpes?
Crosses the elbow and shoulder joints. Extends the elbow
What are the actions and location of the Brachialis?
Crosses the elbow joint. Flexes the elbow
What are the actions and location of the Biceps?
Crosses the elbow and shoulder joint. Flexes the elbow. Assists with shoulder flexion. Supinates the forearm
What are the actions and location of the External Obliques?
Crosses the vertebrae joint. Laterally flexes the thoracic spine. Rotates the thoracic vertebrae
What are the actions and location of the Transverse Abdominals?
Crosses the lumbar vertebrae. Compresses the abdomen.
What are the actions and location of the Rectus Abdominals?
Crosses the Thoracic and lumbar vertebrae. Flexes the thoracic and lumbar spine
What are the actions and location of the Internal Obliques?
Crosses the vertebrae joint. Laterally flexes the thoracic spine. Rotates the thoracic vertebrae
What are the actions and location of the Iliopsoas?
Crosses the hip joint. Flexes the hip
What are the actions and location of the Adductors?
Crosses the hip joint. Adducts and outwardly/laterally/externally rotates the hip
