Maintenance Practices Flashcards
Describe the MSG?
Maintenance tasks to maintain reliability, continued airworthiness and safety built into design of aircraft
What is MRB? What does it do
Maintenance review board.
Approved maintenance program before it can be used
Who creates the maintenance responsibilities?
Shared between NAA, Airline and Airline regulator
What does the Certification Maintenance Coordination Committee do?
Assess whether items should be:
- Certificate of Maintenance Requirement (CMR)
- Airworthiness Limit Items (ALI)
- Safety Systems Assessments (SSA)
Who is in the MRB?
NAA, Design Organisation, Manufacturer
What does the MRB do?
Assist design organisation in establishing approved initial maintenance program for the aircraft (MRBD)
What is ISC?
Industry Steering Committee
What does ISC do?
Develop polices and procedures for development of MSG-3 Maintenance requirement
What is MSG-3
Maintenance Steering group.
Using maintenance as a means of restoring safety & reliability back to their inherent design levels through better failure analysis and a continuous airworthiness maintenance program
What are the 6 different ISC Working groups?
WG1 Flight controls, hydraulic WG2 Environment and Int. Systems WG3 Fuel, Power plants and APU WG4 Avionics, Electrics WG5 Airframe Structure WG6 Zonal
What is in MRBD?
Systems inspections and Checks Structural Inspections and Checks Zonal Inspections ALI (Airworthiness Limit items) CMR (Certificate Maintenance requirement) MMEL CDL (Config Deviation List) SIP (Structural Integrity Program CPCP (Corrosion Preventative and Control) STC (Supplementary Type Certificate)
What type of maintenance is servicing?
- OC (On conditioning)
- Replenishment of fluids, lubrication parts, cleaning, checking tyre pressure or fluid levels
What is preventative maintenance?
Carried out with scheduled activities
Aim is to prevent defects
What is corrective maintenance?
Correcting defects or applying MEL
Often unscheduled
With preventative maintenance, what type of checks are minor checks
A & B
With preventative maintenance, what type of checks are major checks?
1C, 2C, 3C, 4C, 5C, 6C, 7C, 8C
D checks
What CASRs are relevant to maintenance?
CASR 39 Airworthiness Directive CASR 42 Continuing Airworthiness CASR 66 Maintenance personal Licensing CASR 145 Maintenance Organisations CASR 147 Training Courses, Staff & Facilities
In what CAR does CASA allow appointment of non CASA people to make decision about application of regulations?
CAR 6
What is CAMO? Describe
Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation.
CAMO is responsible for the training, evaluation and approval of certain individuals, within the organisation, who effectively have the power of the regulator to make certain “airworthiness” decisions under CASR Part 42.
What statement says that “an aircraft operator must provide skilled maintenance personnel for certifying that an aircraft is
airworthy.”
ICAO Convention Annex 1 Chapter 4
What is a LAME?
Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.
What is AMS?
Aircraft Maintenance Specialists
What are the 3 categories of AMS’?
AMS-1 for certifying Non-type certificated aircraft
AMS-2 for NDT, Welding etc
AMS-3 for certifying Amateur built and experimental aircraft
What is the difference between AMS and AME?
The AMSs will not be licensed but will be issued with a Certificate document specifying their competencies in such processes as Welding, NDT, carpentry, etc or for certifying the maintenance on non-certified aircraft or experimental aircraft.
AME is licensed and certified to CASA regulations and standards.
Nearly all Preventative Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance on a Class “A” Transport Aircraft is carried out by a LAME, but who else can do some maintenance? Explain
If a pilot is trained and authorised, he or she may carry out some preventative maintenance
Under the new Part 66, what is the requirements for LAME?
- Airframe structure, Power plant, Mechanical & Electrical Systems
- Avionic & Electrical Systems
What is the CAT A?
Minor Maintenance & Defect Rectification
Describe CAT A
Is able to issue Certificates of Release to Service for Specific Maintenance tasks endorsed on the authorization after Minor Line and defect rectification on certain parts and components of an Aircraft of a Specific Type Rating..
What is the CAT B1?
Airframe , Engine, Mechanical & Electrical Systems
Describe the B1
Is able to issue Certificates of Release to Service for Airframe structure, Engine, Mechanical & Electrical Systems maintenance carried out on an Aircraft of a Specific Type Rating. (Has Cat “A” privileges)
What is the CAT B2?
Avionic and Electrical Systems
Describe the B2
Is able to issue Certificates of Release to Service for Avionic and Electrical Systems maintenance including Electronic Instrument, Autopilot, Radio & Radar, communication and associated components of those Systems carried out on an Aircraft of a Specific Type Rating. (Has Cat “A” privileges)
What is the CAT C?
Base Maintenance Coordination
Describe the CAT C
Is able to issue Certificates of Release to Service for any Base Maintenance carried out on a complete Aircraft of a Specific Type Rating. Must be in a Part 145 Maintenance Organization
What are some examples of corrective maintenance?
Repair Components that have malfunctioned or failed
Routine Checking of Systems that have discrepancies
Restoration of Corroded Parts
Repair of structural faults
Correction of Passenger Cabin Seat & PES Discrepancies
Correction of reported Pilot Discrepancies
High Priority Service Bulletin Incorporation
Special Supplementary Structure Inspections
Airworthiness Directive Implementations
What are some examples of preventative maintenance?
Pre Flight Checks Transit Checks Minor Check Routine Tasks Major Check Routine Tasks Corrosion Prevention & Control Program Tasks Modifications Service Bulletin Incorporation ETOPS or RVSM Supplementary Maintenance Tasks Supplementary Structures Inspections
