whaat are the 2 types of electricity supplies
alternating current and direct current
what is ac current
alternating current is where the current is constantly changing direction. alternating currents are produced by alternating voltages
what is dc current
direct current is where the current is always flowing in the same direction. direct current is produced by direct voltage
what color is the earth wire
green and yellow
what color is the live wire
brown
what color is the neutral wire
blue
what will happen if the live wire becomes loose
without the earth wire, the live wire can become loose and touch the case. this means the next person to use it may get electrocuted. to prevent this the earth wire is connected to the case.
what does the earth wire do
it protects the woring and is for safety. stops appliance casing from becoming live. usually doesnt carry a current. also at 0V
what does the live wire do
it provides the alteernating voltage from the mains supply
what does the neutral wire do
it completes the circuit, when the appliance is operating current flows through the live and neutral wires. its around 0V
