A
• The Senate seems to be the most powerful governing body as there are more members and are older, which believed meant that they were wiser (they also served a life so had more experience). The Senate also had veto power over any act of the popular assembly of Consuls. Time to build their influence. Being able to control where army goes.

Q
Why do you think this system stayed for long?
A
I believe the system remained in place for so long as everyone from each class had a say of their opinion, the senate represents patricians and the tribunes represents the plebeians. Having an empire only gave one person power but the republic allowed there to be power for more than 1 person, giving more than one person’s opinion.
