Magnets Flashcards
What is a magnet?
An object that is made f special material that can direct a non-contact force such as attrition and repulsion.
What is the word when you make an object a magnet
Induced magnetism
What is induced magnetism and how does it work?
When you make an object a magnet, by aligning its domains to point a specific way, distinguishing its south and north poles, giving it a magnetic field
What metal elements are magnetic?
Iron, Cobalt, Nickel.
What are domains?
Groups of particles in a particle which determine whether it is a magnet or not. If the domain points different ways it is not magnetic.
What are three characteristics of magnets?
-the closer the field lines the stronger the magnetic field
-field lines come from the north to south
-field line work in 3D
-they always have a north and south pole
