How to demagnetise magnetic materials

A
  • Heating a magnet then letting it cool in the east-west direction causes ‘tiny magnets’ to lose their alignment
  • Hammering a magnet in the east-west direction alters alignment of ‘tiny magnets’
  • Put magnet in solenoid in east-west direction, connect solenoid to a.c. supply then withdraw magnet when a.c. still flowing
