Q

Earth’s magnetic field

A

Magnetic north is in the Southern Hemisphere. A compass needle will point in the direction of earth’s magnetic field. The North Pole of a compass will point to earth’s magnetic South Pole

Q

Magnetic field around a current carrying wire

A

When a current flows through a wire, a magnetic field will be produced round the wire. We can use iron filings as they line up parallel to the magnetic field

Q

Attraction and repulsion

A

The poles of a magnet are the places where the magnetic forces it can exert are strongest. When two magnets are brought together they exert a force on one another (opposite poles attract, same repel)
